What
makes Walkabout different or special?
Firstly,
the quality and look of our images is unique. We strive
for a natural, fresh, fun look in our images. We would also
like your memories to have a sophisticated, timeless appeal.
This is true whether the images are totally candid, posed
or semi-posed. Further, eventhough our background is in
photojournalism, we believe all aspects of the day are important,
so we give you a custom balance of posed, candid and artistic
images.
We want
to make sure that your day will flow, and that you dont
feel like you are performing for a camera the whole day.
We are largely there to observe and document your wedding,
not to be the center of attention. We take control when
we need to, but we are always aware that this is your day,
and we will do what we can to make it a success.

How
long have you been in business?
We have
been incorporated for the last 2 years, and weve
been specializing in wedding photography for about
10 years. Prior
to that we travelled throughout the world as photojournalists,
and studied film production in China, Japan and India.
What
type of equipment do you use?
We bring
several cameras and use a variety of formats: digital,
medium format and 35mm cameras.
We bring special equipment like fish-eye lenses
and super zooms. Additionally, we bring a full set of
back-up
equipment. Lastly, we bring off-camera lighting equipment
for those difficult lighting situations (for
example: indoors, under full sun, etc).
Can
we customize a package to suit what we need?
Sure!
The packages are there as a guide for you. You can mix and
switch hours, albums or whatever makes sense to you. Well
then give you a bottom line on cost.
Do
you travel?
Absolutely!
Weve done weddings as far away as Ireland, Australia,
Italy and around the US, as well as across Colorado.
Photographers
of similar quality often charge over $5000, so even though
you are paying for our flight and hotel room, it still
is a great investment!
How
long will it take for you to deliver my proofs?
Around
3 weeks.
Are
all costs included in your package price?
On top
of the package price, there may be additional or optional
fess such as the purchasing of proofs, reprints and/or
CD masters.
Travel
Secondly, even though we don’t charge travel / mileage
costs for the Boulder or Denver metro area, there may be
a mileage charge if you’re out of this area. See
our rate page, or call us if you fall into this category.
Hotel
Similarly, if you’re getting married 100 miles or
more from Denver / Boulder, and we’re working late
at night, for safety reasons we ask that you book us a
hotel for the night.
Apart
from great value, we believe our pricing structure is the
most fair and sensible weve seen yet.
Do
you bring an assistant?
We bring
assistants to every wedding. Assistants are extremely important
in helping document a wedding properly, in backing up important
family shots, and in helping organize people and equipment.
Also, by doing many of the technical, behind the scenes
tasks, they allow me to focus all my attention on my clients
throughout the wedding.

What
do you wear?
We wear
suits and other semi-formal appropriate attire.
What
types of albums do you offer?
Our wedding
albums are mostly hand-made by some of the finest artists
from around the world. The diversity and quality of our
albums really sets us apart. Because we travel so much,
weve been able to find the most unique, fun and interesting
products available, just a sample of which youll find
here in our web site. And because we allow you to mix
and switch aspects of your package, you are assured
of having the album youve always wanted.
How
much are individual photographs?
Current
print prices range from $8.95 for a 4x6; $12.95 for
a 5x7,
$19.95 for an 8x10 / 8x12, and up. Other options to add
to your print include hand coloring and digital manipulation
at
$1/minute, as well as things like sepia toning, lacquer
spraying and framing.
We
get all the proofs, but do you make the negatives available?
Right
now, our policy with negatives is that you can purchase
the negatives within one year of your wedding for $50/roll,
and after a year for $25/roll. When you decide to buy your
negatives, you must buy them all at the same time. We figure
on couples and families purchasing a certain number of reprints,
so we are flexible on raising or lowering the negative cost
accordingly.
Do
you mind if our friends and family takes photos as well?
We really
dont mind if others take photographs along with us.
There are some critical times, however, like during formal
portrait sessions, where guests cameras distract people,
causing them to look in divergent directions. The guest's
flash may also cause eyes to be closed. Also, some churches
prohibit flash during the ceremony, so guests' flashes in
this time can be distracting for you. If guests behave with
consideration, courtesy and common sense when using their
cameras, there should be no problem at all.
How
do your rates compare with others?
Many
photojournalistic wedding photographers charge
$10,000 for a similar service.
Naturally, there are those that charge less than us, but
the quality of their work and their reliability usually
reflects their lower price. If rates are a top issue for
you, please consider this: years from now, when you're
looking
through the album and seeing your wedding day once again
and you're moved by the stories the photos have captured,
be assured, youll consider booking us and enjoy the
best wedding investment you could have made.
Do
we need to provide you with a meal?
Our day
typically starts several hours before the wedding
and goes
on for several hours after the party's over. Its
a long, hard day of being creative under pressure.
We want to function comfortably and effectively, and providing
a suitable meal helps; it doesn't have to be a full banquet
meal: whatever you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Tell
us a little about the web site.
The web
site is a fantastic way for you to show off your photos
to family and friends without getting your proofs wrecked
sending them around the country. Now all of our packages
come with free personal websites that hold all your
photos, enjoy! The web site includes thumbnails of
your selected set of
pictures,
which open
to a
larger
image (about 5x7 in size). Well leave your site
up for about a year, and all family and friends will
be able to order reprints
from the site. To see an example, click
here.

Your
top package includes coverage at the rehearsal dinner. Is
that usual?
This
is a great opportunity for spontaneous photographs
of the couple
with attendants and families. While no substitute for wedding
day photographs, this captures a fun, often very emotional
part of the wedding celebration that is often missed. It
also can provide a more natural "everyday clothes"
photograph of the wedding couple which can complement your
more formal photographs. Its also a good chance
to get pictures of family or groups of friends that you
may not want to take time photograph on your wedding day.
What
is needed to retain your services?
First,
the most important issue is whether we are available for
your date. We only photograph a limited number of weddings
each year and dates book up fast. If were available,
we require a deposit of $500 to secure the date. The balance
is due up to a week before the wedding. The deposit is non-refundable.
Can
you hold the date for me?
Sorry,
were unable to hold a date without a deposit. Our
services are provided on a first come, first served basis,
and we book up fast. I suggest contacting us early in your
planning stage; lately, clients have been booking well over
a year in advance. Even if youre unsure of which package
youd like or what time to have us there, you can still
put your deposit down and well hold the date for you.
